Chris Louis
Artist Bio:
I am a self taught visual artist of Haitian descent from Canada, working in several different mediums (oil, oil pastels, acrylic,
spray paint, charcoal & digital). I started painting in late 2020 which was around the time I started my branding/marketing company, Krank Media House Inc.
My passion for conceptualization, my need to be expressive, and the other creatives in my circle lead me to the canvas. My work consists of
primitive neo-expressionism. Paint is applied with a painter's spatula, and scratched off to reveal the layers beneath. I try to refrain from
using paint brushes in order to keep a tactile element to my work. Utilization of pastels & charcoal also allow me to embody these primitive
elements. Texture is always a vital component alongside repetition, surprise, movement & counter movement. I draw inspiration from
artists including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Wassily Kandinsky, Gerhard Richter, Dominic Besner, Adebayo Bolaji & Keith Haring. They have all
played an instrumental role in my color palettes, technique and overall compositions.
